Life is not the Game of Thrones.
You don't deal with your competition by killing them. You don't have to be die before you declare defeat. And you never win. It's better this way.

It's easy to fight for a good cause when you get paid for it
when everyone else is on your side when it's seen as the right thing to do when you get credit for fighting when people talk about the work you are doing they say nice things about you they think you are wonderful It's really easy to fight for a good cause Unless All you are getting is the fight for a good cause You aren't special
Probably you are very average Most likely you are likely producing work that is pretty much as good as anyone else. That's OK Because the important work is not done by those who do a one off amazing thing, an exceptionally above average achievement or by those who are making things that are better than everyone else. The important work is the stuff that's done regularly, on time, reliably and good quality. I don't think I am alone in, on occasion, silently judging the words, actions and intentions of those who are younger, and newer to my industry.
I am under no illusion that when I was younger and newer to the industry I would have made a few people silently judge my words, actions and intentions probably more than occasionally. I'm lucky that some of those silent judgers gave me a chance. So are you. Pay it backwards. Honor the person you once were and the person you have become by doing what others did for you. And not doing what others didn't. Go on, it will be fun and to be honest, it will make life a lot more simple.
All those people out there who have dumb ass ideas, instead of having to argue we can just all get on with the important work of changing lives, getting people healthy, making the world a better place. Mindless arguing for arguing sake wastes all our time. Smal problem: The world isn't flat Cigarettes don't improve your lung health The colour of your skin does not define your distance from apes I don't deserve to die because I'm gay Who decides who's ideas are dumb? Tell you what. Let's NOT all agree. I used to be in with a good chance.
Too tired Overwhelmed Too much to do Unappreciated Downtrodden Not good enough I used to think I could win one of these awards with just another hour's work, a day extra at the office, one more midnight baking extravaganza, a business proposal written in my own blood, sweat and tears- but the competition has just got too tough. I'm not entering anymore. Congratulations to the winners. It's a fact, you can't change a fact.
Facts just are. It is what it is, no sugar coating, no ifs buts and maybes. We all get rain. If we stand in it we get wet. But... If your washing is out rain is annoying. If your computer is on the deck it's downright frustrating. If you are a witch it's certain death. If you are safely tucked up in bed it's like music. If you are have to get from the car to the supermarket it's going to make you swear. If you are running it might make you smile. If you are in a drought it might save your life. It's just rain right? Wet, from the sky. It's a fact. Sometimes really good work happens when you step up, engage, take part and give others the benefit of your experience.
Things happen faster Mistakes are less likely to happen You know how it's done. But sometimes the best work is done when you step back, say nothing, sit back and give others the benefit of learning things for themselves. Things happen slower Mistakes happen Things get done differently Just because you are the best person to do the job doesn't mean you are the only person able to do the job. Sometimes the job isn't what you think it is at all. Find out. |
