Winning

You have nothing to prove to us
No superhero powers required on demand
there's no need to be better, despite feeling worse

It's okay to tell us you are not managing
Or don't feel like being perfect
You don't need to convince anyone here
You are achieving... despite the odds

It's fine to not be fine
No one is counting good girl points
Or marking you down for not trying hard enough

There's no celebration out here that you are being hard on yourself
But we're not you.

And what really matters is the only person who is not on your side is you.

It's only when you get something you want
That you can truly decide whether you actually want it at all.

And if you decide you don't want it
It's ok to give it back and go looking for something else you want

Just remember that just because you don't want it doesn't mean it's not worthwhile
So rather than tossing it to one side in a heap and trampling on it.
Wrap it with care and leave it in a safe place for someone else.

It's funny that
When you stop thinking
you know it all
you end up knowing
much more

You don't know what other people think,
You don't know what's around the corner,
You don't know what is going to change,
Or what will stay the same.

You don't know what you don't know,
You barely know what you do know,
most of that will change anyway.

You don't know what's important to you tomorrow,
or yesterday.

You don't know
You just don't know,
no matter how many times you try to make it otherwise.

Mostly what we want to know is that we are doing something right.

complaints
resistance
complacency

It's often not because there is anything wrong

It's that we haven't been told we are doing anything right.

More Alarm than Good

In just an hour....
Don't ever do this thing.....
Never eat this....
This is killing you.....
You will never recover from doing this....

And yet

We are still here

But perhaps not believing the alarmist headlines so much

even if they have an element of truth

That's not so good

Middle Aged Dread

Middle aged
Means the middle of all your ages
All things being equal you are half way there.

For every year you have lived you get
to live the same number of years again

and yet middle aged is talked about like the beginning of the end.

It would suck to spend half your life anticipating your demise
rather than living half your life
So don't.

Annoyed

There's only one thing more annoying than someone who is
new to the game and a bit green,
not yet that good,
lacking experience,
not able to see the full picture.

There's only one thing more annoying than that.
And that's remembering that you were once that someone too.

When it's really good..

We like to complain when things aren't as easy as they should be
But when things are easy we tend to get less done
We relax
We chill out
We know that the world won't end if we don't get it all done

And then when it stops being easy we complain
Basically because we didn't do as much when it was easy.

Two options: even when it's easy, get it done.
When it's not easy, stop complaining
and get it done.

One option really.

Fast beats Good

That beautifully worded email?
The heartfelt message telling me how much you care?
The explanation about just what you can do to make me better?
That apology for the delay; these are busy times!

I'll wait for you to get around to getting back to me if I don't have another choice.

But if I do have a choice?

Fast beats Good.

(ps: 'thanks for getting in touch, I'll get back to you soon to answer your query' is pretty fast when typed or texted).
