1: I want you to take a few moments to think about the advice you would give to your younger self.

We love an enemy
Someone or something to fight against Te resist To empower ourselves Like fat, or refined sugar, or people who don't say thank you In fact We love having an enemy so much if there's not one available we'll create one Out of something, or someone, who's not an enemy at all. (like potatoes, or the business next door). Let's face it.
While we feel bad about it we all judge others. It's funny though, that the people we judge most harshly are those who judge us. They were sure the world was flat,
that cigarettes were safe, that shoulder pads made you look professional, that a low fat diet helped with weight loss. They told us, they assured us. they made a promise. We believed them. Many of your truths will become outdated. By all means believe them now. And share your thoughts with the world. But don't be arrogant about it Or you'll look like a dick later. Whether your life is not as good as it should be,
or not as bad as it could be, you're in the same place. (exchange the word life for one that suits. e.g.: wife, job, haircut, potato masher..) One of the keys to being successful in your business is to be relevant.
Relevant to the people you are trying to engage with. Being the best, the most awesome at what you do is irrelevant if the market you are targeting can't afford what you do. Can't get to what you do. Doesn't really understand what you do. By all means be the best, but also be relevant Sometimes
Do you find yourself doing things You don't want to do Just so you can be annoyed at having to do them? Sometimes Do you find yourself asking people To do things you know they can't do Just so you can be annoyed that they won't do them? Sometimes Do you look for opportunities To avoid the easy route Just so you can be annoyed at having to do it the hard way? "Resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die" There are billions of people who have the potential to be better than you.
More than a billion of them have a great idea. Multiple millions of them want to do something about it. Multiple millions will decide to do something about it Millions will get started BUT How many will keep going? How many will deliver? How many will succeed? AND What about this... How many will be doing EXACTLY what you are doing But be doing it somewhere so far away that they aren't competition? SO Why Bother? Because success is not just based on what others are doing that may stop you But also on what you do to avoid being stopped. It's tempting to want everything at the same time, in the same place in one neat package.
Right Now. Before you try to get everything all at once, work out what you NEED, what you have already and then look for the rest: You'll need a job This is where the money comes from, either directly when you get paid per hour or indirectly when you do something that allows you to be provided for. You'll need a career This is the area in which you work, like medicine is a career for jobs like doctor, nurse, pharmaceutical salesperson. You'll need a purpose This is what keeps you going in the long term, it could be saving lives or making the perfect paper crane You'll need an outlet This is what keeps you going in the short term, time out, a release, being creative. You'll need a sense of responsibility The knowledge that you are contributing and that what you do counts You'll need a sense of value The knowledge that you are contributing and that you count no matter what you do There's no such thing as free.
You should always pay. Either money, time, reciprocity. If it's free either someone else is paying Or you aren't likely to get what you want. ( If you want something for free so you can grow your business to get paid money you ain't doing it right.) |
